In reality, most true tapestries are a form of textile art and normally made from hand by using a vertical loom. All of the threads are hidden and when the tapestry is completed there is an image, pattern, or design that has been created.

In the 14th and 15th century France was known as a place that had introduced tapestries to the modern world for that time. Although those who were of the upper class were the individuals with the art; it soon became known that the popularity of the tapestries was spreading.

By the 19th century many tapestries were being created in factories and there were many individuals who were taking part in the creation of the textiles. However, the tapestries didn’t become realistic in many homes until they were introduced as art as well.
In all fairness, there are unique attributes that go into the creation and making of tapestries. Many of them look somewhat like area rugs, and yet designed to hang on walls and be displayed. Obviously, tapestries are considered affordable in today’s society. There was a time when they were however considered luxury only. And, tapestries made by machines in factories with the assistance of the workers are not as valuable as those tapestries literally made by hand.

Some tapestries over the past few decades and in the last few centuries were considered to also be famous. There are those that depicted famous people, places, and even those tapestries that captured images of various animals. The ideas are virtually endless for tapestries today. Industry and modernization has allowed individuals to create and design the tapestries at a faster pace. Some portions of the tapestries are still created by hand too.
Some individuals prefer those tapestries that are essentially created by hand. Although this process of making the tapestries takes longer the value of the product is increased tremendously.

Some museums all over the world have accumulated tapestries that were ultimately owned by famous people as well as rulers in different centuries. These tapestries are made of thread and there are some made of gold and other materials too. Many hours of human time and labor was put into each one of the tapestries.  These tapestries can’t be replaced and show the true beginning of tapestries in our world today. From landscapes to people and animals the tapestries on the market today are even more beautiful. Patterns and images created by those individuals with an exceptional imagination for beauty and art that create the tapestries we know now.
